Art I made in q1 2019

California in Winter.

Our mantle had become bare for various reasons and so I hoped we could avoid the political dispute over what to put there by making something together.

About 7 different people painted wood blocks for this. It went on a white frame thing. Then the tchotchkes moved in!

It is quite charming, fairly easy, and makes space for a plurality of voices or whatever.

So cute.
So cute.
The empty cube by mine turned into a piñata-inspired diorama. I mostly did this to prevent it from turning into a trash heap. Though you can still see some of the inevitable clutter encroaching at a diminished pace.

More office art! They moved us to an open floor plan so I put this up that night. They made me take it down of course. I was only just starting to think about gazebos made of 2x2 at this point. All taking inspiration from 2x2 work in 2018.

Pretty sure this was too classy for them to handle.

Unwanted phone outlet covered with simple box. Honestly I did awful work on this box and you can see it on the edges, but it’s still pretty cute in the photo and it lives under and behind the couch anyhow.

Renee positioning the center post for the new fence and gate. Such a great photo, someone should make a sex joke.

Brutal work this handle part. We have to cut the wood to pretend it’s a door, see.

A challenge I took on: can we build a wooden structure with 2x2 there all our pieces are short enough to fit in a car? This solution is by Renee, but is actually only 5'5" at its pinnacles.

This looks nice but would never stand up at full scale. Hot glue is not the same as screws.

Put together this talk on art-on-art hookup.
Looks nice, but wouldn’t be very strong. Still optimizing for style over function.

I gave up on using only short poles for this basically permanent shade structure for the backyard.

This is rather significant to me. It packs up to fit flat on the back floor of my hatchback. It takes up about 6" of the bed, so I can stack on top and it’s like carrying 2 small folding tables. It opens into a cube about 7'8" on a side that you can cover in fabric, add shelves to, or connect to more cubes or whatever.

The corners are all reinforced on each plane. The top one here is black.

Adding fabric makes it shady and protected from the wind. Oh, also I built it full scale and packed it up.

Cut and painted all this stuff. The magenta is a single coat of primer plus paint in a spray can. Way better than any other color from this brand; loved it.
